Dry Auger Boring
Dry Auger Boring (also known as bed boring and under road boring) is one of the main drilling techniques we use, often suitable for smaller jobs like road crossings, under driveways and where trees/landscaping cannot be harmed and/or removed.
Our unique equipment enables us to perform auger boring where conventional
directional drills cannot fit. We are suitably equipped for drilling works in difficult access areas as minimal lead-in room is required for this method. It is advantageous to auger bore under or alongside footpaths, buildings, gardens, retaining walls, driveways, concrete, pavement and roadways.
Our drilling technique allows existing infrastructure to remain undisturbed with minimal mess, as mud does not eventuate in the process. This is beneficial in urban areas with high density populations and busy workplace environments, resulting in less waste to local landfills.
Our expertise in auger boring allows us to bore in all types of clay and shale as well as being equipped to drill in conditions like sand and rock. Bore hole diameter capabilities are 50mm to 600mm plus. Dry under road boring is cost effective as mud removal and tip fees are avoided. Upon completion conduits are installed and are ready for our clients to use.
Horizontal Directional Drilling
Horizontal Directional Drilling is often used for longer distances and/or where the gradient is too steep for the bed borer to operate. Directional drilling is performed by firstly completing a pilot bore which is steered by a trackable device located in the drill head sending an electronic signal to the handheld locating device, always tracking its line and depth. Reaming is then commenced until the required diameter is achieved and conduits pulled into the bore, ready for clients to use.
In conjunction with the directional drilling, drill slurry is removed by vacuum extraction which is taken off-site to an approved waste management facility for disposal.
The directional drills allow us to drill under and alongside roadways, under trees, creek beds, water catchment areas, retaining walls and infrastructure. Our specialised equipment and drill heads enable us to drill all types of ground, ranging from sand to rock. The HDD bore hole capabilities range from 50mm to over 500mm in diameter.
Non-Destructive Digging & Vacuum Excavation
Non-Destructive digging via vacuum excavation is an effective technique used to minimise any risks and/or damage to existing underground assets and the environment. Vacuum excavation is also used in difficult access areas due to the location or multiple services being within the vicinity and has quickly become the go-to method of excavation when excavating near underground assets.
AV Drilling provides vacuum excavation services 24/7 at extremely competitive pricing. AV Drilling vacuum trucks are equipped to complete any task required within a timely and efficient manner.
Grouting & Excavation
AV Drilling supplies a grouting service which is the pouring of grout into the remaining borehole cavity, filling the remaining void between the installed pipes and the borehole. This ensures further strength and stability and is sometimes required as per engineer’s specifications and under significant road crossings.
AV Drilling can work unaided as we have our own excavation equipment onsite to excavate entry and exit holes, remove soil to site stockpiles and complete trenching works. In areas of hard ground and rock, hammer excavation is used to complete excavation requirements.
